Board By-Laws

These are the by-laws of the Peotone Public Library District Board; they guide the board in procedures for meetings, elections, conduct, roles etc.  These are supplementary to the statutes of the State of Illinois.

Finances

The Board annually submits a financial report, passes the Budget & Appropriation Ordinance, and then passes the tax levy for the district.  One of the board's main responsibilities is to oversee the finances of the Library.  As stewards of public funds, we strive for transparent communication regarding the finances of the Library.

Library Board of Trustees

Peotone Public Library District, as a district library, is an independent taxing body and levies property taxes as the primary revenue for operations.   The Library is governed by an autonomous, seven-member board of trustees elected by community residents to serve four-year, staggered terms of office and may be re-elected.  They serve without any remuneration of any kind.  Legal responsibility is vested in the Board of Trustees by Illinois State Statute.  The Board of Trustees accepts responsibility for working within the legal constraint of all applicable Illinois Statutes.
